{ Recipe } Chawanmushi 茶碗蒸し

Egg is such an amazing ingredient. No matter how you cook it, it still tastes nice (unless you really screwed up). Egg drop soup, quiche, hard boiled egg, scrambled egg, the list is just never end. Among all the egg dishes, chawanmushi is the first come to my mind, if you ask me what my favourite egg dish is. It is silky smooth like tofu. It has plenty of variations. It goes perfectly with shiitake mushroom, enoki mushroom, crab sticks, ginko etc. A good chawanmushi will just melt when you put a spoonful in your mouth. Just by thinking of it makes me feel like to cook some tonight...

What is your favourite egg dish?

{ Recipe } Chicken Karaage

This is one of the best fried chickens that I really don't mind to cook at home. Simple yet tasty! Mr. Pear and I like to order this when we eat out in the Japanese restaurant.

Chicken karaage is best serve with beer. I am not saying that I am an alcoholic or trying to promote alcohol, but deep fried chicken of course is nicer to eat with beer and friends, especially at a game night or party of some sort.

Forget about the alcohol. This is sure a big hit on the dinner table for most of the kids! Com'on, who doesn't like deep fried food! If deep fried Mars bar can be a hit, why can't chicken karaage? It is sure healthier than the Mars bar. At least, I think so. :P

I can confirm you that the taste is excellent. However, you may ask if it is hard to make. The answer is NO! Unless you truly hate deep frying at home, otherwise, there is no reason for you not to give it a go. Enjoy!

{ Recipe } West Lake Beef Soup 西湖牛肉羹

Winter is finally here! This morning was freezing cold, a bowl of soup can surely warm me up! And this is the only thing that I like about winter... Talking about soup, it reminded me of  the soup I made the other night -- West Lake Beef Soup.

Why West Lake? To be honest, I have no idea. It could be because it is originated from the area around West Lake or this soup is made with the beef there. Whatever the reason is, doesn't really bother me. It is the taste that matters.

This is one easy recipe that everyone can make. Ingredients are also easy to get. If you want some soup to warm up your night, try this tonight :D

{ Recipe } Potato & Leek Soup

I think most of you have heard about "Love Food Hate Waste" campaign. I am sure you agree with me that we all don't like to waste food. It is not just the money that we have wasted to buy them, but also wasted the energy that transporting them to where you buy, the landfill and so much more.

Head to this site by New South Wales Government. There have many ideas to help you save your food so as to reduce waste and guilt.

You may wonder, why suddenly I bring up this topic! haha... it is because this soup was made of all the leftover ingredients that were in my fridge! Plus as you know (or if you don't know yet), I love my soup like Manu (the judge from MKR) loves his sauce, I have to cook something that I love. Furthermore, this is the perfect weather to give myself excuse to cook more soup!

I was lucky enough to find this recipe on the newly released Taste.com.au magazine, so it saved me time to search on internet. This is absolutely an easy and simple recipe for your lazy weeknights :D

{ Recipe } Hairy Melon & Dried Squid Soup 節瓜鱆魚湯

I love soup! I can have soup every day in every single meal and I will never ever get bored nor get sick of it YES, I am obsessed with any kind of soup, doesn't matter if it is Western or Asian, creamy or watery, canned or powder...

If you ever got someone to ask about my favourite food, you should know the answer by now and it will always be the same -- SOUP! No any other answer but SOUP! If you get it wrong, I will be really upset! :(

As you know, I originally from Hong Kong and most people from this city love to have soup, if not all. That partly explains why I love soup. But then there is another contributor, the major one, to my obsession of soup. That is my mum. We were brought up with mum's yummilicious soup everyday. If there is no soup one night, there must be something wrong. No matter what the reason is we feel like we are missing something for that particular meal. Yes, we are so addicted to mum's soup.

Since I am away from home, I must learn how to cope with this addiction. Therefore, I started to ask mum and search online to learn how to make my ultimate comfort food.

You will soon to know I genuinely love soup! There will be lots of soup recipes later on... if you love soup like I do, stay tuned :D

For the time being, enjoy this hairy melon and dried squid soup. You will love it! :D

{ Recipe } Sunomono 酢の物 (Japanese Cucumber and Seaweed Salad)

Mr. Pear and I love cucumber very much. The freshness and juiciness feeling make the dish taste extra delicious. This is one of the reasons that we planted the cucumber in our garden. Since we planted the seeds in February till now, we have got more than 15 cucumbers and there are more coming soon.

Now we have supply of cucumbers in our garden, of course, we will make very good use of this fresh produce. While Mr. Pear's signature cucumber salad is my all time favourite, today I made this Japanese cucumber salad from Just One Cookbook and it tasted absolutely fantastic.

Just One Cookbook and Just Hungry are my Japanese cuisine rescuer. There got lots of Japanese cuisine recipes and they are easy to follow. Good for weeknight dinner if you are always busy!

{ Recipe } Mushroom Soup

This morning after we brought Cindy to see the vet, we went for some grocery shopping at Woolworths  Then I saw they had a bag of mushroom selling at AUD 3. How can I not buying them when I have been craving for a mushroom soup for ages and it is such a great comfort food for this non-stop raining weather.

Last time when I made homemade mushroom soup, I followed Julia Child's recipe and this time I tried Julie Goodwin's one. There are many other variations, but because I don't have many ingredients in the fridge, so I picked this one and find it easy to make! :))

Talking about Julie Goodwin, this is my first time to read her recipes. To be honest with you, I like Poh Ling Yeow better and I so wanted Poh to win Master Chef in season 1. So, when I know Julie won, I was kinda refuse to read any food related material from her... Yes, I know it is a bit extreme and not very fair... When I googled "mushroom soup", her link was the first one on the page... but I clicked every single one on that page and still hesitated if I wanted to see her recipes... But then, I talked to myself and I thought why I am so narrow-minded.... So, I took my greatest effort and click to Julie's website and read the mushroom soup recipe. Guess what? I actually like it! It's simple and easy to make, and it is so good for people cooking at home. Then, I browsed other recipes and I found there are many easy-to-follow recipes and I am definitely going to try later, umm... Maybe tomorrow? haha... Anyway, I still like Poh better~ :P
